Ministry Description |
First Congregational Church (FCC) is a vibrant voice of God’s liberating love in the culturally rich and transitioning city of Fort Worth, Texas. FCC is looking for a bold Senior Minister who is committed (1) to progressive theology, unburdened to say the thing needing said, (2) to dynamic preaching drawing from Christian (and sometimes non-Christian) sacred sources while considering historical contexts, and (3) to calling the community to actions that confront injustice and oppression, fostering a church that practices radical hospitality and inclusive outreach. Our church has been blessed to be served in the past by Senior Ministers who were women, men, gender queer, lesbian, gay, and straight- all are celebrated in the pulpit, including you. FCC has a robust children’s and youth program along with a nursery beginning to flourish with many new little ones. Our adult chats (after worship) and various small groups are excellent ways we integrate new visitors and deepen connections in the church and then call upon those groups to acts of bold service in the broader community. In our worship, we no longer speak in terms of “traditional” or “contemporary”, “us” vs “them”. Instead, we extend our inclusive practices by honoring everyone’s connection to God through a blend of all music, all Christian rituals, all sacred stories, and all people’s welcome at the table. At FCC, Sunday mornings sometimes feel closer to Saturday nights, and at other times, it may feel like a contemplative mass or gospel revival; but, in all times, whether by the band or organ, guest speaker or preacher, kid’s time or breaking of bread, worship is always transformative at First Congregational Church. We are eager to share ministry and leadership together with our next Senior Minister and continue FCC’s proclamation of progressive Christian faith and God’s liberating love.
