Ministry Description |
Eliot Church of Newton is a spiritually-curious and socially-engaged congregation, with a commitment to social justice, in pursuit of spiritual nourishment and scriptural understanding. Due to the recent pastoral transitions that Eliot has experienced, it is important for us to find a minister who shows a commitment to help us grow in faith and renew our commitment to each other through vibrant Sunday worship services, and to support our engagement in issues of concern to the wider community. Eliot has a long history in its commitment to supporting and assisting local and regional organizations. We are gifted with a versatile building in a great location that has allowed us to welcome a variety of community groups to share our space, including a preschool program, recovery groups, parent groups, and choral societies. We would expect our new pastor to support and encourage increased engagement of Eliot in these types of community engagements. For a small church, Eliot has a very vibrant music program. The collaboration of the new minister and the Director of Music is vital to continue these programs. Most importantly is for Eliot to have a pastor who can support members of the congregation in their spiritual journey through the Sunday service, adult and children educational programs, and with personal pastoral care. As a small congregation, we would expect a new pastor to get to know our members personally through educational programs, commission meetings and pastoral visits, and to share our commitment to social justice issues. |
