Ministry Description First Church Somerville is seeking candidates who are Queer identifying (LGBTQ+) and looking for their “first call” in the local church to serve in our vibrant, young, and pretty Queer community. For the last 2 years we have been blessed by the leadership of our first Pastoral Resident and are looking forward to the future! The “critical mass” of Queer people in our congregation makes us fertile ground for a new, queer, pastor to explore their ministerial identity and gain pastoral experience in a setting without experiencing the “othering” that can happen in a less diverse setting. We hope the Queer Pastoral Residency is a launching pad for a healthy, long, and faithful career in pastoral ministry. And we hope the new resident leaves their mark on our community in a way that helps us be more faithful, creative, and welcoming for generations to come. FCS is a happening place! Our church is currently undergoing a construction project to become more accessible. We just voted to rent the first floor of our building to Somerville Homeless Coalition to increase access to emergency housing in our city. We continue to work on strengthening our children & youth programming. We look forward to increasing our visibility in our community so the people who need us can find us. We have a life-filled music program and love to sing and dance. Our strengths include a committed lay leadership team, enthusiasm for Justice and Outreach, lots of kids and teens, and a strong desire for community care. Our growing areas include helping new people get connected, helping our small but mighty “over 50” population feel supported, growing our young adult programming, and continuing our work on being actively anti-racist in all we do. If you are a Queer identifying person called to local church ministry and looking for your first call, apply by sending your ministerial profile via the SNEUCC or complete the application for those without a UCC ministerial profile. Application deadline: 5/15/24.
