Ministry Description Aloha kakou! Haili Congregational Church was the first Hawaiian church established on the east side of the Island of Hawaii. We are proud of our rich history and in 2024, we will be celebrating our 200th anniversary. We embrace our Hawaiian language, culture, and values, and incorporate them into our church services. Our Sunday worship services are held at our main sanctuary in downtown Hilo and Kuhio Chapel in Keaukaha. God is the head of our church; His Word is our foundation, and we are his disciples. We are a Congregational church where our members are vested in determining the church’s direction. We are 77 members strong, and we know the true meaning of Aloha and willingly share it with each other and visitors. We are praying for a Kahu (shepherd) who cares for his sheep, holds the needs of our members and church foremost in his judgement and decision making, and can work collaboratively with our leaders to lead us forward in unity. We are seeking a leader who is energetic, motivated, transparent, and engaging; one who will work with members to grow our church membership by spiritually and number, but not limited to focusing on youth while working to enhance our outreach in the community. As one of the oldest Hawaiian churches, we want to continue to incorporate the Hawaiian language in our worship services. We are looking for someone who is committed and willing to become a student of the Hawaiian language, who will come to understand the culture, and become sensitive to our values. Please pray that the Lord will reveal to us the person He has chosen for Haili.
