Ministry Description |
Second Church seeks an energizing, enlivening, and motivating settled, full-time senior minister who shares our values as an Open and Affirming congregation. We are at a pivotal time in the life of our church and in our connection to our wider community. We have a deep and abiding love for our community and a shared faith in our mission as a church in the UCC. As part of our current journey as a congregation, we seek to discern how we can keep our connection with our past, recognizing the value of our traditions, while also opening ourselves up to the changing needs of our congregation and the community around us. We want someone who will walk with us in this journey— as a spiritual leader, a collaborating partner, an insightful guide — facilitating our explorations and discernment, igniting our creativity, and developing our future plans. Someone who listens to the needs and concerns of the congregation, facilitating communication, and engaging us to become better leaders ourselves, encouraging and developing lay leadership. Someone adept at providing resources and guidance to strengthen our mission and our faith. Someone comfortable dealing with difficult or conflictual situations who can help us with hard conversations with compassion and honesty, allowing room for differences while working toward consensus. We are looking for a pastor who is welcoming, engaging, and open-minded; people- and team-oriented, with collaborative, non-prescriptive and nurturing organizational skills. With music being one of our strengths, we like the metaphor of a conductor who brings us together to work in harmony toward the same goals. We seek a pastor who demonstrates and encourages all to live in covenant with God through compassion, respect for and accountability to one another, and who will help us grow in our mission with a sense of stewardship and caring. Someone who demonstrates a life philosophy and style compatible with awe for and care of Creation in all forms. |
