Ministry Description Ministry Description: Aloha kakou! Haili Congregational Church is one of the oldest Hawaiian churches with a rich history. In 2024, we will celebrate our 200th anniversary. We embrace our Hawaiian language, culture, and values, and incorporate them into our church services. Our Sunday worship services are held at our main sanctuary in downtown Hilo and Kuhio Chapel in Keaukaha. We also offer Release Time at our chapel to the children of Keaukaha. God is the head of our church; His Word is our foundation, and we are His disciples. We are a Congregational church where our members are vested in determining the church’s direction. Haili Christian School, founded by Kahu David Ka’apu a prior Kahu of Haili is on our campus. Hilo is a small growing multicultural town on the island of Hawaii with a population of approximately 45,000. Families have access to good public and private schools including the Hawaii Community College and the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Hilo is the seat of County Government and provides easy access to the Hilo International Airport and Hilo Medical Center. We are praying for a Kahu (shepherd) who cares for his sheep, holds the needs of our members and church foremost, and can work collaboratively with our leaders to lead us forward in unity. We need a preacher whose sermons are Bible based, and are inspiring, uplifting, educational and applicable in our lives; a visionary who understands Haili’s possibilities and how we can collectively achieve them. We will continue to include the Hawaiian language in our worship services and are seeking someone who is committed and willing to be a continuous student of the Hawaiian language, culture, and values. The new minister’s salary will depend on education and years of experience and will be obtained using the guidelines available from the UCC resources. The full-time base salary range is $45,000 to $55,000 annually. We pray that God will reveal to us who He has chosen for Haili.
