Ministry Description |
Olivet Congregational Church is an open and affirming church located in Saint Paul, Minnesota with a 126-year history of community involvement. Before Olivet even had a building the congregation was raising funds to help people in the community. Community involvement continues to this day. Olivet supports our local and greater community through food shelves, sponsoring and supporting immigrant families, Habitat for Humanity, The Department of Indian Works, the Crow Creek Indian Reservation in Fort Thompson, South Dakota, affordable housing through Beacon Interfaith, and Interfaith Action of Greater Saint Paul. Olivet’s Faith Formation programs include nursery, Godly Play, Adult education, and Bible studies. Olivetians appreciate music. The historic church often server as a venue for music performances. Our choir is directed by Brian De Young a noted music teacher and performer. Olivet is home to Lynn Dobson’s first pipe organ, as well as a Steinway piano, a harpsichord, and handbells from White Chapple Foundry in England. Olivet is at a crossroads of what God is calling us to be. Over the last two years, Olivet has been in a process of self-examination through congregation discussions and discernment. COVID has delayed our progress through this process, but Olivet has voted to select a path of growing the congregation and possibly inviting other churches to worship with us. The Bloom Community has joined Olivet; Bloom is a Christian community that welcomes everyone. They focus on people who for various reasons don’t fit into mainstream Christian worship. Olivet is a well-organized church with active committees and a council whose members work well together. We are looking for an interim pastor who can continue to guide community changes that will welcome and make room in our Christian community for the people who are not here yet. |
