Ministry Description |
HOPE United Church of Christ is a bright spot of HOPE in the western suburbs of Chicago, unexpectedly tucked away in an office park. Most HOPE partners discovered HOPE through an internet search or heard about the church from a friend. We are a destination church with people traveling from all over the Chicago metropolitan area to attend services. We also have people who follow us online and have participated in remote services from out of state and even outside of the country! HOPE is currently seeking an intentional interim minister to help guide us through the transition from our former pastor to a new settled pastor. You’ve heard the saying “great things come in small packages?” Well, we may be a small church, but we are a mighty one. The HOPE community has a family feel. When you walk into HOPE, no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you ARE welcome! Like a family, we go through good times and difficult times together. We like to laugh and play, even during Sunday worship service. Because we are a small church it’s all hands on deck at HOPE. There is a reason we are called partners at HOPE as we all play a part in running the church. There is a way for everybody to get as involved as they would like at HOPE -indeed it is essential to all aspects of the day to day operations at HOPE UCC. We value everybody’s voice, from our youngest HOPErs to our elders. With the help of 2 part time paid staff in the office, the ideal candidate must be able to work with and empower the lay leadership. HOPE is unique in its social justice activism and in the months where there is a 5th Sunday, no sermon is needed. The congregation spends that Sunday being active in our community through our Jesus Has Left the Building and We’re Following Him (JHLTB) program. HOPE is an open and affirming congregation and it is important to be recognized as a safe haven for those of the LGBTQ+ community. |
