Ministry Description |
St. John’s United Church of Christ is seeking an Associate Pastor who will work collaboratively and creatively with others to expand accessibility and inclusivity in all areas of church life; help cultivate a culture of belonging in which the experiences, needs, and gifts of children, youth, and vulnerable ones are centered; and work to insure that ministry, programs, and relationships align with congregational values, including our Open and Affirming commitment to advocate for and support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary, and queer individuals, equipping us to embody Christ’s extravagant affirmation and be bold witnesses for justice and inclusion and ensuring that all people are celebrated as beloved children of God. The Associate Pastor will serve as a spiritual leader and teacher, with a focus on faith formation for children, youth, and adults, as well as pastoral care and support for those at the edges of congregational life including homebound and those exploring the St. John’s community. The Associate Pastor will be part of the worship team which includes preaching and worship leadership. This set of responsibilities is somewhat flexible, based on skills and gifts of the candidate. St. John’s is experiencing a time of revitalization, new energy, and deepened service, outreach, and witness. After losing our senior pastor of 42 years in 2022, we have called a new settled pastor and are excited about the ways God is leading us into the future. Community service, living into our values as an ONA congregation and Creation Stewards, accessibility, ministry to young people, and cultivating a beloved community are some of our priorities. We embrace a contemporary and relevant faith in a traditional setting. As we prepare to celebrate our 150th Anniversary in 2026, we are full of gratitude and joy at the ways the gifts of the past have brought us to this moment. We are building on a firm foundation and St. John’s is rooted and rising in love! |
