Ministry Description |
At the end of every service, our beloved music minister strikes up the piano, and we all burst into song. “Carry your candle, run to the darkness... Take your candle, and go light your world.” A beloved ritual, this song is also a beautiful summary of Main Street Church. We are a small, casual and active congregation with many members choosing to take part in community outreach and mission trips. Set in a quintessential white steepled church in a quintessential New England town, Main Street Congregational Church is much more than a physical place. Our doors are open to all, and we pass out of our doors to bring God’s love to communities near and far. Our beloved pastor of the past 20 years is retiring, and we seek an intentional interim pastor to guide us through our grief and our discernment of who our next pastor will be. Our church community embraces the gift of diversity in our church, our neighborhood, and our world. We affirm that all people are created in the image of God, all worthy of God’s love and grace. We are an Open and Affirming congregation, welcoming and serving all through our regular Sunday attendance and live-streamed services. We celebrate and welcome diversity of one’s faith journey, economic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, documentation status, age, relationship status, physical ability, mental ability, and education. We welcome those who have known the pain of exclusion and discrimination in the church, or in society, and those who have not. We recognize that there are differences among us and believe that we can love alike even though we may not think alike. With an Interim Pastor to journey with us, we will find our way through the search and call process, prepared to enter into a new partnership with a settled pastor. |
