Imagine a church where the people who receive hot meals and warm coats feel so welcome that they come to worship! Imagine a church that lives its mission to be witnesses to God’s love in its community by hosting educational forums on gun violence, mental health, LGBTQIA+ equality, and the opioid epidemic. Imagine a church where the music and message lift you out of your seat each Sunday! We are that church! We are a church that takes the Gospel as a guide for inclusion, not exclusion; engages everyone in challenging questions of faith and justice and has been building bridges in our community and the world for more than 157 years. We are known in our community as “the church that cares!” We believe that when we meet our surrounding community where they are, as they are, the spirit of welcome and love is extended in ways that surpass words. Our new Pastor of Faith Formation will help us discern where God’s Spirit is guiding us, and will lead our Faith Formation team with creativity and innovation. They will enhance our new model of a Pastor of Faith Formation who reports directly to our Church Council, replacing our traditional, hierarchical model of senior pastor/associate pastor. Creating our Church Profile has led us to a deeper understanding of who we are and who we want to become – an even more dynamic version of “the church that cares!” We cannot wait to share our vision with the right person, called by the Holy Spirit. |
