Ministry Description We are a Christian community dedicated to welcoming all who seek a relationship with God, to sharing God's Word and love and nurturing all in their journey of faith. We recognize and love each and every individual as a child of God. With God's grace we covenant to grow and practice a unity of faith that transcends our differences and celebrates our lives. We are an Open and Affirming congregation that renews and strengthens its commitment to advocate justice and equality for all people. We are located in Rowayton, a family-oriented, coastal community within the city of Norwalk, CT. We are close proximity to New York City, and Boston and within walking distance to the train station. Our roots were planted in 1860, as the Five Mile River Baptist Church. With growth, a new building was built nearby and dedicated as the Rowayton Baptist Church in 1905. The Rev. Donald Emig was called in 1945. He succeeded in merging the Baptist and Methodist Churches into "The United Church of Rowayton" in 1951. Our unique House of Worship, initiated for the desire for a new sanctuary as "a symbolic bridge between God and humanity," was dedicated in 1962. The Rev. John Livingston, our second pastor, was called in 1986 (he retired in June 2022). We wish to serve as a vibrant community church providing a welcoming, safe and loving sanctuary for all ages. We hope to encourage and attract young families to be a productive part of the community and increase their participation in church activities. To meet these goals, we seek a pastor involved in ecumenical, interfaith, and community activities. We are looking for an inspirational preacher, a creative leader who will utilize technology. Using the strengths and gifts of this congregation, we want to expand our mission into the greater community. We embrace our past and prepare to explore new opportunities.
