Ministry Description |
The First United Church of Christ, Sheffield, IL, is located in rural, small town, northern Illinois. The population of Sheffield is around 850. We are off Interstate 80 within an hour of major cities, including Peoria, LaSalle/Peru, and Moline/Rock lsland ... and within a few minutes of larger towns with numerous shopping options and amenities. Within our town we have basic shopping options such as a grocery store, hardware store, gas station, restaurants, beauty shops, and other businesses. We also have a medical center, pharmacy, and bank. We are a part of a 5 community Consolidated School District. Within easy driving distance are Community Colleges and Universities. Chicago is within two hours driving time. We like to describe our Bureau County location as "Living in Paradise." That assessment comes from the beauty of the different topographical features, the lack of traffic congestion, and the friendliness of the people. We are down-to-earth, straight-forward folks. We hope to find a Pastor who will lead our congregation and also consider him/her self as a part of our Church Family and our Community. We make no grandiose claims. Our Church is small. Our congregation is aging. However, we consist of a group of people who work well together. We do not exaggerate when we say we have no conflict. We share ideas and come up with solutions. We encourage each other in whatever talent any of our members have to contribute to our Church. And we are eager to work with a Pastor who might have new ideas of helping us grow our congregation. |
