Ministry Description |
UCC Southbury is an active, dynamic congregation in the midst of transformation. We are returning to a 2-minister (senior and associate/ youth and families) staffing model to invigorate both our youth and adult ministries. During an interim period, we developed a strategic ministry plan. Our new Sr. Pastor, Shawn Garan, joined us January 1, 2022 to help us implement that plan. We are seeking an Associate Pastor who has a passion for youth & families, missions, and social justice. We want to develop innovative ministries for children, youth, and families and create an inclusive and supportive environment at all of our church gatherings. Our vision is to create a space for youth to come and share what is going on in their lives and share fellowship. We are expanding community outreach programs including church- sponsored community festivals and events. We will be exploring Open and Affirming and more impactful community mission outreach programs. Southbury is a beautiful and unique suburban/rural Connecticut town of nearly 20,000 residents between Waterbury and Danbury and at the southern edge of Litchfield County. The town is home to a very large retirement community (Heritage Village and other independent/assisted living communities) as well as a growing professional population with a convenient commute to Hartford, New Haven, Stamford, and Westchester County NY. The local school system is very highly rated within Connecticut. As a result our congregation is a mix of retirees, professionals, and young families. Our new Senior Pastor is excited by the challenge of spiritually leading our transformation while also delivering compassionate, poignant traditional faith programs. With our diverse and committed lay leadership, the ministers will nurture our current initiatives and play a key role in identifying new programs consistent with this vitality. Shawn is excited to mentor, guide, and work alongside with a new Associate Pastor who is early in their career. |
