Ministry Description |
Pullman's Community Congregational United Church of Christ (CCUCC) is seeking an Interim Pastor who will work collaboratively with our Associate Pastor beginning July 6.
CCUCC was incorporated in 1886 as the first church in Pullman, WA. In 1994 members voted to become an Open and Affirming congregation. In May 2011 CCUCC marked its 125th anniversary.
Senior Pastor, The Rev. Kristine Zakarison, has skillfully led CCUCC since 1995—making her the longest-serving pastor in the history of the church. The first-ever Associate Pastor, The Rev. Chip Laird, answered our call in 2005. Kristine has submitted her resignation, effective July 6, 2015, citing “it is time.” The Rev. Laird will be on sabbatical leave until August 15, 2015.
Pullman is a non-metropolitan college town nestled in the picturesque Palouse hills. Our congregation is a diverse mix of ages and occupations. It includes faculty and staff from two area state universities, multiple-generation family farmers, retirees, teachers, doctors, lawyers, and businesspeople. All are engaged, creative, compassionate, and supportive of a thoughtful and non-dogmatic theology that acknowledges many paths to God.
Church finances are sound and facilities are without deferred maintenance. In response to declining weekly attendance and membership, CCUCC has contracted with the New Beginnings Assessment Service to identify ways to strengthen our ministry. This work will conclude at the end of the year.
We wish to retain a strong community presence in the region while serving as a church base for long-time members and new arrivals, young and old, families and singles.
The interim candidate should be familiar with church re-vitalization processes, committed to being open and affirming, able to share in a collaborative ministry with the Associate Pastor, and an advocate for the UCC history of “extravagant welcome.” |
