Ministry Description |
First Congregational Church of Bakersfield UCC is a historic, inclusive congregation rooted in love, service, and justice. Since 1892, we've welcomed all who seek a spiritual home, living out our Open and Affirming commitment and the belief that "God Is Still Speaking." Our ministries are active and outward-facing. We host a CAPK Head Start preschool, share space with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, and offer programs like the HOPE Project and a weekly Food Pantry serving over 800 families. Our Dukes Concert Series, Blessing of the Animals, and community meals bring neighbors together in joyful connection. We live our faith by showing up, serving others, and making space for all. We’re seeking a full-time pastor to journey with us, someone who will inspire worship, deepen outreach, nurture faith, and walk alongside us in love. Bakersfield is a thriving, mid-sized city in California’s Central Valley, offering affordable living, a vibrant arts scene, diverse dining options, and access to natural beauty from the Sierra Nevada to the Pacific Coast. While Bakersfield is known as a more conservative city in a progressive state, our church stands as a welcoming and inclusive voice for justice, faith, and love in the heart of the community. Founded in response to the needs of a growing frontier town, FCC has long been a voice for progress in the region, from supporting Chinese and Japanese communities in times of discrimination to being the first church in Bakersfield to become Open and Affirming.
