Ministry Description Come do a new thing with the Southeast Conference, United Church of Christ in Tuscaloosa, Alabama! We are seeking a visionary, compassionate, and experienced pastor to build, develop and lead the establishment of a new, radically inclusive, Open and Affirming United Church of Christ Christian community, grounded in love, centered in relationships, meaningful-relevant-creative worship, called to serve, fortified by justice, sustained by peace, and free to dream. Tuscaloosa is located in west-central Alabama, less than an hour southwest of Birmingham and just 2 hours northwest of Montgomery. It is the home of historic Stillman College and the University of Alabama. It is also home of the Tuscaloosa Civil Rights History & Reconciliation Foundation. Early on, Tuscaloosa was called the “The Oak City” for the huge water oak trees that lined the streets in its early days, which led to its long-time nickname, “The Druid City,” referring to an ancient Celtic people who worshipped oaks. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a welcoming and inclusive community, developing and implementing programs that reflect our commitment to social justice, engaging students from local colleges and universities, and building partnerships with community organizations to serve our members and neighbors better.
