Ministry Description “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22 Ka Hana O Ke Akua Church was created by a group of dedicated Christians forty years ago, to fill a need on the magnificent Waianae Coast on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. We have grown to a membership of over 100, but we look for a Kahu (Shepherd) that can further Christ’s Mission in Our Community. We are located in the midst of the largest concentration of Native Hawaiians and oldest of the Hawaiian Homesteads, and are proud members of the Association of Hawaiian Evangelical Churches. Our host culture and Honua (sense of place) are important to all of us, but we are truly a diverse congregation. Our hopes are for a compassionate leader and guide able to join us in our outreach to those in need. For many years we have maintained a food mission in partnership with FoodBank Hawaii. This ministry has evolved over the years; currently we reach out to approximately one hundred families living on beaches in our community or who come to distribution points. The “pantry” is also open every Sunday to those in need. We have also supported Compassion International for many years as a way to take our mission to help those in need far from our own community. We have an annual Compassion Sunday, and many members sponsor children overseas. We pray for a Kahu to help and guide us all to preach the good news by reaching out to to our community, who will lead worship and participate in the sacraments in a manner faithful to the broader Christian heritage and our message as an Open and Affirming Church. We seek a compassionate and passionate Pastor who is sensitive to the unique characteristics of our Hawaiian Home.
