Ministry Description |
First Congregational UCC in Coloma, ONA since 2005, seeks a dynamic, progressive, justice-loving pastor to help us explore, engage and experience our faith as we continue to grow in relationship with God, our community, and the world. We are looking for spiritual leadership in both worship and outreach. God is still speaking; we are still listening and learning - challenged to share through mission, outreach and sharing our message. Our small congregation is amazingly generous in hands-on missions: food justice, women's justice, LGBTQ issues, first responders support - as well as being a 5 for 5 church. Over a decade ago, we founded a program of soup suppers to raise money for the local food pantry and have our own on-site garden which also supplies the pantry. We support victims of domestic violence with feminine hygiene products, holiday gift cards, and Cecily's closet of household goods. An open and affirming congregation in Southwest Michigan, we support the OutCenter (LGBTQ) financially. We bake and, on Christmas morning, personally deliver cookies to police, firefighters, EMTs. A major fundraiser is the sale of our famous Peach Pork Barbecue and peach pie during the Coloma Glad-Peach Festival in August. Ours is a lovely steepled New England style building with a well-maintained red brick ranch style parsonage next door. Located on I-94, 100 miles from Chicago, Coloma is near Benton Harbor, St. Joseph and South Haven; 45-60 minutes from Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. A farming and tourist town of 1,500 residents, five miles from Lake Michigan, Coloma is adjacent to Paw Paw Lake. Coloma has a PK-12 school district with four school buildings. In our conservative area, we believe that our progressive church plays a vital role in the community. While our congregation has weathered some recent storms, we are stronger and look forward to meeting a new pastor with whom we can walk humbly with God, loving justice and living kindness |
