Ministry Description |
The Congregational Church of Detroit Lakes United Church of Christ seeks a full-time minister to guide our progressive, Open and Affirming, Creation Justice congregation. Detroit Lakes is a year-round recreation, arts, and entertainment center in beautiful Lakes Country in Northwest Minnesota. Detroit Lakes Public Schools offers state-of-the-art facilities and programming for all students. Detroit Lakes is home to one of the Minnesota State Community and Technical Colleges and 45 minutes from three major universities. We recently celebrated our 150th anniversary. Our location in the city center provides us opportunities to engage with the surrounding community and churches and encourages extensive outreach as a primary focus. Our congregation is known as an accessible and willing partner in service to others. Some examples are support of the local food pantry, the local crisis center, children’s camperships, Heifer International, and a long history of UCC 5 for 5 mission support. Our basic support for OCWM is reviewed annually and currently stands at slightly less than 10% of our operating budget. Our worship service is a mix of traditional and contemporary with a thriving choir and worship band. Our Sunday School, recently revived, is growing. We strive to show our love for God by loving and accepting everyone. As a close-knit church family, we place high value in working together as a family. This is expressed in our open sharing of joys, concerns, and prayer requests during worship service and fellowship together after the service. Members of our congregation strongly believe all are ministers and may and do actively participate in nearly every aspect of the church. We value everyone who enters our circle wherever they are on life’s journey. We believe we are called to follow Jesus in loving, affirming, worshiping, teaching, forgiving, and serving. We desire a minister to shepherd and inspire us to grow in our faith and guide us in these and other ways. |
