Ministry Description |
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Rt 15 in Jericho VT will have a pastoral vacancy beginning Jan 1, 2024. Our retiring Pastor, Arnold Isidore Thomas, is a UCC minister and Good Shepherd is quite open to calling another UCC pastor to lead our congregation. Approximately 65 family units make Good Shepherd their church home and average worship attendance is 55 persons. Visitors to our Sunday worship often remark on how open, friendly and welcoming we are. Our congregation is characterized by our intellectual curiosity, life-long learning and spiritual growth. We are a well-organized faith community that that is ecumenical in spirit (our members come from many different faith backgrounds), with strong interfaith connections. Our worship services are rich and varied, including traditional liturgies as well as member-composed Folk and Celtic services, plus Contemporary and Latin American settings. Our church life is enhanced with small group activities, such as group hikes in our beautiful mountains, cheering for the Lake Monsters baseball team, men’s breakfasts at a local restaurant, a Prayer Shawl ministry, contemplative prayer and study on weekday evenings, and a Bible study group. We also have a strong social mission, and our programs and activities include hosting a monthly Ecumenical Food Shelf in conjunction with many other area churches, engagement with CASAN (Chittenden Asylum Seekers Assistance Network), People Helping People Global (a home-grown organization by two members of Good Shepherd that provides micro loans to Nicaraguans), and we are a co-sponsor of “The Talk, Vermont”, which explores topics and conversations concerning bias and bigotry in our state and the ways people of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations and gender identities may overcome them. We also provide space for a local Montessori preschool in our building. |
