Ministry Description |
The ideal fellow candidate will be willing to be immersed and engulfed in an experience with poverty and homelessness. The fellow will be able to learn “best practices” from a social work perspective working directly with unsheltered persons and those accessing assistance through our energy assistance programs. In addition, they will have an opportunity to work with staff around advocacy for those who are living the margins of poverty and homelessness. The fellow will have an opportunity to dispel for her/himself the myths that surround homelessness and poverty and be able to educate others on this equity and justice issue. Expect to be embraced by the caring and diverse Back Bay community! The fellow will have the valuable experience of working with UCC volunteers from across the country who spend a camp week at Back Bay Mission. The fellow will be able to observe the change and transformation of individual lives as they are immersed in working with poverty and serving with their gifts and talents. Depending upon their skills, they will be able to work side by side with UCC volunteers as they rehab homes for those living in poverty. The housing will be covered for the fellow in our long-term volunteer cottage on our campus and they will be able to have meals most days with other UCC volunteer groups.
