Ministry Description Plymouth Congregational Church of Minneapolis is an urban church drawing its 1,600 members from across the Twin Cities. Plymouth provides space for people to explore their spiritual paths through rich worship, the arts, a premiere music program, vibrant youth programming, and service to the community. Through our 160-year history we have fought for justice and taken bold action, led by eloquent and caring senior ministers. We now seek a person to lead within our new team ministry model, to collaborate with staff and congregation in an ongoing exploration of what it means to be a progressive Christian church on the edge of downtown Minneapolis in the 21st Century. Plymouth attracts a congregation of highly engaged, passionately caring and intellectually curious members who value openness, transparency and thoughtful conversation. Theological dogma is expressly disavowed. We are grateful for lay and clerical leaders who challenge our way of thinking, who offer fresh insights and inspiration, who confront impulses of complacency, who listen well, who value tradition as well as discovery as means to discern a path forward. Plymouth, like most urban churches, is in transition. We are focused on expanding our reach and impact. Younger social-justice minded individuals and families are finding their way to Plymouth, bringing energy and enthusiasm. We are making room for the new while also honoring our history, loyal legacy members, and traditions like excellent music which have made us strong. Plymouth’s campus occupies one city block on the edge of downtown Minneapolis and houses a food shelf, a theater, an art gallery, and provides a home to a number of community non-profits and a Spanish immersion preschool. Minneapolis itself is a highly livable city, with a strong economy and arts scene, good schools, the best parks system in the country, and a diverse population. To apply, send cover letter and current profile, resume, or CV by March 11 to search@plymouth.org.
