Your first introduction to our island is from Caterpillar Hill, looking out over russet blueberry fields and dark evergreen forests across the deep blue waters of Penobscot Bay and countless islands to the south. Rockland and Camden Hills are off in the distance to the west. To the east is the summit of Cadillac mountain and Mount Desert Island. Behind the rolling hills of Byards Point rise the spires of the historic Deer Isle-Sedgwick bridge. Deer Isle, and our congregation, represent an authentic Downeast population of fishermen, entrepreneurs, retirees and others who work hard, value family and find island life rewarding. The Island is a hub of artistic opportunities including Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Opera House Arts, Seamark and The Reach Performing Arts Center. Available on the island are Medical Doctors, Dentists, EMT services as well as grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, libraries, public schools and daycares. Whether you are looking for a place to raise your family, or an individual looking for a place reinvent yourself, the Deer Isle Sunset Congregational Church is a great place to answer the call. We seek a pastor who will have an attitude of acceptance and generally believe that a life of faith does not mean one has all the answers, but is open to any question.
