Ministry Description The United Church of Chapel Hill is a progressive, open and affirming congregation, located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Our history goes back over 100 years and we anticipate a vibrant 2nd century. Our congregation of nearly 1000 includes people of many faith traditions and theological perspectives, and extends across racial, sexual, gender identities and orientations, and age groups. We accept and welcome everyone. Our congregation is forward-looking, with much hope for the future. We are committed to living God’s word through worship, study, our commitment to social justice initiatives, and mutual support of members and friends. We also try to walk the talk, through our current involvement in racial equity and environmental stewardship activities and by seeking additional opportunities to serve those on the margins. Our Pastor will be a skilled and prophetic preacher of the Word, who engages intellectually and spiritually with an educated congregation. We seek a teacher and leader who is a social activist in word and deed and who will inspire the congregation to reflect on and act on biblical insights. He or she will also work collaboratively with lay leadership in stewardship of all we have. Our pastor will help members and visitors alike feel welcome, and will encourage participation from their voices. We seek a Senior Pastor who will walk with us on our journey and be a friend and companion to members of the congregation and the broader community.
