Ministry Description |
First Congregational Church of Berkeley, United Church of Christ, Berkeley, California is seeking a new Senior Minister, as our current Senior Minister, the Rev. Patricia de Jong, is retiring after 20 years in that position. Our church, founded in 1874, is a progressive, open and affirming UCC congregation of 500 members and we are financially sound. We are located near the University of California campus in the heart of Berkeley, one of the nation’s most dynamic and diverse cities, and we serve the entire Bay Area. We are an engaged congregation, and blessed with a highly-talented team of ministers, staff and lay leadership. We have been carefully preparing for this time of transition.
We are seeking a dynamic preacher and compassionate leader who will continue to assist the members of this congregation on their spiritual journeys, and lead the congregation to act in impactful ways in the world – locally, nationally and internationally. The new senior minister must be someone who will work collaboratively with the ministerial and lay staff and the lay leadership. S/he will be called upon to build on the strengths of our tradition, provide vision as to new ways to share the Gospel message and maintain that personal, pastoral touch.
Responsibilities include worship planning for two services (casual and classic), preaching and education, pastoral care, supervising other ministers and staff (paid and volunteer), working with the lay leadership, and being the face of our church in the community and the larger church.
